Minhaz is a Start Up Activist, Youth Organiser and Opportunity Broker for the less advantaged. A firm believer in homegrown development Minhaz has left cushy jobs to establish BetterStories Asia, an ideas and design agency active in the areas of ICT, Research and Entrepreneurship. BetterStories Asia is a for-profit Social Enterprise in Bangladesh believing in the Asian Century and Bangladesh taking the center stage of development over the next century.
Minhaz is one of the pioneers of Bangladesh StartUp movement which has been abuzz across the country of late. With more than 15 years of experience in local business landscape and development domain he realized that it is the young entrepreneurs of Bangladesh who would change the game for the country. He set up Bangladesh’s first business incubator proper called BizCube in the year 2010 which is a member of Infodev and National Business Incubators Association, USA.
In the year 2014 Minhaz has helped 4 local startups double their survival chance, build a pool of 50 mentors and facilitate development of an entrepreneurial ecosystem in Bangladesh. Minhaz is one of the leading community organisers in Dhaka who have supported a number of hackathons and youth initiatives such as CloudCamp Bangladesh, Bangladesh Open Source Network, Water/Sanitation Hackathons, StartUp Weekend 2014, StartUp DU, LaunchPad Bangladesh and the National Mobile Hackathon.
He is the licensee and Organizer of Bangladesh StartUp Cup and host of this 7-month long mentorship driven business model competition in Bangladesh. He is a Co-Director at Founders Institute Dhaka and a board member at Bangladesh Youth Enterprise Advice & Helpcentre (BYEAH), which is accredited by the Youth Business International (YBI) UK, a Charity founded by the HRH Prince of Wales that leads a global network of independent country initiatives helping young people start their own business and create employment.
Minhaz has received the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund in 2014 from US State Department to help him further the startup movement in Bangladesh. He has also worked probono to help the Government of Bangladesh and the leading ICT trade body in Bangladesh BASIS to organize the largest tech exposition of the South Asia: Digital World 2015 which had about 450,000 footfalls, 75+ speakers from 25+ countries and making a lasting impact on the startup ecosystem of the country. For the Bangladeshi founders he is soon starting BizCafe – a matchmaking platform for co-founders, mentors and investors.
Minhaz has been identified as an potential Independent Director for the Banks and offered the Corporate Governance Board Leadership Training of Trainers Program in Banking by IFC and delivered Training of Trainers of the Freelancers to Entrepreneurs program for the ICT Division, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology as a facilitator.
Of late Minhaz has been inducted as an Advisor to the World StartUp Cup, Global Ambassador with National Business Incubation Association, Bangladesh Ambassador of Seedstar World and the Founding Advisor of Future Strategy Group.
