Founder & Managing Director of Team Engine – a social good company, Samira Zuberi Himika, is the second woman and the youngest EC board member/ Director of “Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services” (BASIS) for the tenure of 2014-16. She is also the Chairwoman of Inspira Advisory and Consulting Ltd. and Founder of ‘Social Good Foundation’. She is also the Board member of Dnet (Internationally and Nationally awarded ICT for Development organization).

Samira Zuberi Himika was awarded as “Global Women Leader for Social Development” by World Leadership Congress 2015 for her diversified initiatives as social entrepreneur, SME, ICT, etc. She was awarded as one of the Global Young Leader for Entrepreneurship (out of 60 Leaders from 130 counties). Currently she plays the role of a global Startup Mentor (Malaysia, Brunei, India, Pakistan, USA). She was former Head of Communications, BBC World Service Trust and also served as Communications & Development expert in different INGO and NGOs.

Throughout her work life, she has been dedicatedly producing many first-of-its kind projects and platforms for society and people of Bangladesh and beyond. She believes in dedicatedly working for bridging gaps in the relevant fields for “missing-middles”. Himika is actively involved in mentoring and promoting local artisans and creative minds through her organizations. She is a regular speaker at different events, conferences and summits nationally and internationally representing Bangladesh.

In 2015, Himika taken the initiative to promote and support the women in tech and inspire more women to participate in the ICT industry of Bangladesh by launching “BASIS Women’s Forum” – a national platform for Women in Technology by BASIS.

In early 2015, Himika’s R&D team from Team Engine introduced global innovations – Bangla OCR, Bangla Text-to Speech and Bangla Corpus. With these series innovations Team Engine with its local R&D team has designed roadmap to enable digitalization of billions of Bangla contents (online and offline platforms).

In 2013, as Team Engine initiative, Himika conceptualized and hosted country’s first summit for Entrepreneurs of all kinds and sectors. “National Entrepreneur Summit” (NES), celebrated by more than 32,000 entrepreneurs and SMEs from around Bangladesh. Currently as a follow-up of 1st NES, she is working on an initiative to take off in collaboration with Government of Bangladesh, International community and other leading corporations with a roadmap to connect and support Millions of entrepreneurs of Bangladesh by year 2021.

Her previous team (BBC Janala team) received a global award – BBC Reith Award 2010 (best craft category) extraordinary global innovation in enabling people to learn English language through mobile technology – till February 2012 only the website directly got 10 million people individual users and 18 million phone calls were made into the mobile platform to learn contents which her team developed with BBC English team. Till her time at BBC World Service Trust she also led all communications and media activities for national and international programs such as, BBC Sanglap, BBC BUZZ and World Debate in Bangladesh. In 2010, Himika had also abstracted and produced GPHouse Profiling – an Art Hub which is first conceptually curated art project for any MNC in Bangladesh.

Previously, Himika’s team also led major nationwide project – ALCHEMY (Healthy Living national campaign and Telemedicine revolution project) currently working with 62,000 young students.

As a judge, coach, organizer, public speaker and curator Himika led and contributed in Startup Weekend Dhaka, Startup Cup Bangladesh, World Bank Hackathon and other 20+ startup events in Bangladesh and abroad. She was nominated as a delegate by US State Department to represent Bangladesh to Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2013 in Malaysia participated by 130+ countries.

For last 15 years she has been an active figure as an artist and cultural campaigner in Music, Visual art fields as well. Himika studied Media Communications, Finance and Development Studies in her graduation and masters.
